At Medispa Maui in Kihei, BOTOX® Cosmetic is led by Dr. Brian Stolley, MD, a board-certified physician, nationally recognized Allergan Medical Institute Trainer, and aesthetic injector with more than 20 years of experience caring for the people of Maui.

Our approach pairs careful facial assessment with refined injection technique so your expressions stay your own, while dynamic wrinkles soften over time. Patients across Kihei, Wailea, and Kahului trust our team for natural-looking results that respect how your face actually moves.

What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is an FDA-approved injectable neuromodulator made by Allergan from a purified form of botulinum toxin type A (onabotulinumtoxinA). It works by temporarily relaxing the small facial muscles that create dynamic wrinkles, which are the lines that form from repeated expressions like squinting, frowning, or raising your brow.

At Medispa Maui, BOTOX® is one of three neuromodulators we offer, alongside Jeuveau®  and Dysport®. The product best suited to your anatomy and goals is selected during your consultation.

How BOTOX® Injections Work

BOTOX® Cosmetic blocks the nerve signals that tell the targeted muscles to contract. The treated muscle relaxes, the overlying skin smooths, and the surrounding muscles continue to function normally, so your face still moves and emotes. The effect is gradual: it builds over roughly two weeks and wears off as normal nerve activity returns.

What Concerns Botox May Improve

BOTOX® Cosmetic is most effective for dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated muscle movement. Common concerns BOTOX® may improve include:

  • Dynamic wrinkles: Lines that appear or deepen during expression, such as crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines.
  • Early signs of expression-driven aging: Subtle lines that have not yet etched into the skin, often addressed with preventative or “baby Botox” approaches.
  • Asymmetry from expression patterns: Imbalances created by stronger muscles on one side of the face.
  • Brow heaviness: A heavy or tired-looking brow that may lift naturally when targeted muscles relax.

Static wrinkles already deeply set into the skin may benefit from a combined plan that includes filler, biostimulators, or skin resurfacing.

During your consultation, Dr. Stolley or a member of his trained injection team will evaluate the concerns most important to you and discuss whether Botox, another neuromodulator, or a combination plan is the better fit.

BOTOX® Treatment Areas

Every face is unique, and every BOTOX® plan at Medispa Maui is built around your anatomy, your goals, and how you naturally express. Our team focuses on the cosmetic areas BOTOX® addresses most reliably:

Area What Botox Addresses
Forehead Lines Horizontal creases that form when you raise your brow.
Frown Lines (the “11s”) Vertical lines between the eyebrows may give a tired or stern look.
Crow’s Feet Fan-shaped lines at the outer corners of the eyes.
Brow Lift Subtle lift that may open the eye area and soften a heavy brow.

Patients also commonly ask about treatment for bunny lines along the nose and lip lines, a gummy smile, jaw clenching and TMJ-related discomfort, and neck bands (sometimes called the Nefertiti lift). Dr. Stolley will review each area individually and recommend the right approach during your visit. Final unit counts are determined in person, never online.

Benefits of BOTOX® Treatment

BOTOX® offers a non-surgical way to address visible signs of expression-driven aging with minimal disruption to your day. Most patients return to their normal routine immediately after their appointment.

  • No surgery, no downtime: A short visit that fits between meetings, school pick-up, or quick lunch dates.
  • Subtle, natural-looking improvements: Refined technique helps preserve your natural expressions rather than freezing them.
  • Preventative effect over time: Consistent treatment may slow the deepening of dynamic lines.
  • Highly customizable: Each plan is tailored to your facial anatomy, goals, and neuromodulator history.

Who Is a Good Candidate for BOTOX®?

Adults in good general health who would like to soften forehead lines, frown lines, or crow’s feet, lift a heavy brow, or address dynamic wrinkles before they deepen are typically good candidates for BOTOX® Cosmetic. The best way to confirm is through a personalized consultation, where your goals and concerns are reviewed.

BOTOX® may not be appropriate during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, for patients with certain neuromuscular conditions, or for anyone with a known sensitivity to botulinum toxin or to ingredients in the formulation. We review safety considerations carefully during your visit.

What to Expect During Your BOTOX® Consultation and Treatment

Your appointment is designed to feel unhurried, informative, and personalized. Most BOTOX® visits at Medispa Maui follow this flow:

  1. Welcome and intake. A member of our team reviews your medical history, current medications, and aesthetic history.
  2. Facial assessment. Dr. Stolley or your injector studies your face at rest and in motion to examine how your individual muscles create lines and asymmetries.
  3. Treatment planning. You will discuss the areas you would like to address, the look you hope to achieve, and a recommended plan with approximate unit counts. You will also be told what BOTOX® will and will not do for your specific concerns.
  4. Cleansing and prep. The treatment areas are cleansed. Topical numbing or ice may be offered for added comfort, although most patients do not request it.
  5. Injections. A series of small injections is placed in the targeted muscles using a fine needle. Most appointments take 15 to 30 minutes from greeting to goodbye.
  6. Aftercare guidance. Before you leave, you receive written and verbal instructions for the next 24 hours, plus answers to any final questions.

BOTOX® Preparation & Aftercare

A small amount of preparation and a few simple post-treatment habits help your results develop predictably and reduce the small chance of bruising.

How to Prepare for Your BOTOX® Appointment

  • Pause blood thinners when possible: With your prescriber’s approval, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, fish oil, and vitamin E for several days before your appointment.
  • Limit alcohol the night before: Alcohol thins the blood and may make bruising more visible.
  • Skip waxing or aggressive skincare on treatment areas: Avoid using retinol, exfoliating acids, and waxing for at least 24 hours before your treatment.
  • Eat before you arrive: A small meal beforehand may help reduce lightheadedness during injections.

Maximizing Results with Proper Post-Treatment Care

  • Stay upright for at least four hours. Avoid lying flat or putting your face in a massage table opening.
  • Skip workouts, saunas, and hot environments for 24 hours. Increased blood flow may shift product placement.
  • Do not rub, press, or massage the treated areas for 24 hours.
  • Hold off on facials, microdermabrasion, and skin treatments for two weeks.
  • Mild redness, tenderness, or small bumps at the injection sites are normal and typically resolve within 24-48 hours.

When Will I See Results from BOTOX®?

Most patients begin to see softening of the treated lines around 3 to 5 days after their appointment. Full results typically develop over about 2 weeks as the targeted muscles fully relax. BOTOX® results commonly last 3 to 4 months, though longevity varies based on metabolism, the strength of the treated muscles, dosage, and the consistency of your treatments over time.

Many patients schedule follow-up appointments at the 3- to 4-month mark to maintain even, predictable results. We will help you plan a cadence that fits your goals during your visit.

How Much Does BOTOX® Cost in Maui?

BOTOX® pricing in Kihei depends on the number of units required, the areas being treated, and the strength of your facial muscles. Some patients are happy with a few units to soften a single area, while others choose a fuller plan covering the forehead, frown lines, and crow’s feet.

Because cosmetic BOTOX® is an elective treatment, it is typically not covered by insurance.

A custom price quote, along with information on financing through Cherry and any current promotions, is provided during your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Botox

Here are a few of the questions we hear frequently during consultations. If you have a question that is not covered here, bring it to your visit, and we will walk through it together.

Is BOTOX® Cosmetic safe?

BOTOX® has been used cosmetically for more than two decades and is FDA-approved for several cosmetic indications.

Safety depends heavily on your injector’s experience and anatomical knowledge, which is one reason patients across Maui choose a physician-led practice for their BOTOX® treatments. We review your medical history, medications, and any prior reactions to treatment before determining whether BOTOX® is appropriate for you.

How long does BOTOX® last?

Most patients enjoy results for 3 to 4 months. Longevity is influenced by metabolism, the strength of the treated muscles, dosage, and how consistently you have maintained treatment. Patients who regularly treat often notice that their results gradually last a little longer.

Will I look frozen?

Not when treatment is performed correctly. Our team aims for a softened, natural-looking result that preserves your normal expressions. If you have specific preferences about how much movement you would like to retain, share them at your consultation. Dosing is adjusted accordingly.

What are the possible side effects of BOTOX®?

Most patients experience only minor redness, tenderness, or a small bump at the injection site, which usually resolves in 24-48 hours. Less common effects may include mild headache, brief eyelid or brow heaviness, or a small bruise.

Rare but more serious side effects are reviewed during your consultation, and we provide written aftercare guidance and warning signs before you leave.

Does the injection hurt?

BOTOX® injections are quick, and most patients report only minor discomfort during treatment. Topical numbing or ice may be applied if you would like extra comfort.

Is BOTOX® safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

BOTOX® is generally not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding because there is limited safety data in those situations. We will happily welcome you back for treatment after this season of life.

What is the difference between Botox, Jeuveau, and Dysport?

All three are FDA-approved neuromodulators that temporarily relax targeted muscles, and all three are excellent products in the right hands. They differ in onset speed, spread pattern, and unit conversion, and some patients prefer one over the other. Dr. Stolley will recommend the product that fits your anatomy and goals at your consultation.

What can I combine with BOTOX®?

Many patients combine BOTOX® with chemical peels, microneedling, dermal fillers, or laser resurfacing to address tone, texture, and volume in addition to dynamic lines. Your consultation includes a discussion of which combinations may best support your goals.

When should I call the office after my appointment?

While significant complications are uncommon, please contact us promptly if you notice spreading muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing or breathing, drooping of the upper eyelid, blurred or double vision, or any worsening beyond 48 hours. After-hours emergencies should be directed to the nearest emergency department.
