Rejuvenate Your Eyelids

One condition that people believe seriously affects their appearance is their eyelids. The effect of aging eyes is primarily hereditary or your ethnicity which is intrinsic in nature, but just like all the other parts of your face, your eyelids are also affected by extrinsic factors such as solar radiation and atmospheric pollution.

The more exposed you are, the more your skin begins to lose elasticity. This is due to the ways in which oxidative stress breaks down elastin and collagen in your skin. This results in your skin becoming loose and sagging. Weakened skin and muscles may cause the delicate tissue of your eyes to droop or sag. At times, this aesthetic issue can sometimes impair your vision.

Excess skin can build folds on your eyelids and this can lead to unnecessary deposition of fat. Even applying make-up will not help you avoid looking worn out or tired. People who suffer from this condition, which is called blepharoptosis, should consider undergoing blepharoplasty to rejuvenate their eyelids.

What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a common plastic surgery procedure that is performed to rejuvenate the natural contours of your eyes by removing excess skin, muscle, and fat from your upper or lower eyelids.

This will make your eyes appear much more rested, alert, and even give you an overall youthful appearance. Apart from aesthetic improvements, blepharoplasty can also correct functional problems that may sometimes result in impaired vision due to sagging skin.

What Can Blepharoplasty Correct?

This procedure can improve various conditions such as:

  • Loose and excess skin around the eyes
  • Puffiness
  • Bags under the eyes
  • Hooding on upper eyelids
  • Drooping eyelids

Blepharoplasty can also improve the symmetry of your eyelids as well as give you a completely rejuvenated and refreshed appearance.

How is This Procedure Performed?

Typically, this procedure requires local anesthesia and maybe some sedation. It doesn’t take more than two hours to complete. Depending on your condition and desired results, incisions are made on the inside and/or outside of the upper or lower eyelid, usually inside the lid’s natural crease.

This helps reduce scarring to a minimal. Surgery on the lower lid will involve incisions inside the lid or under the lashes. Excess fat and skin is removed through these incisions. In some cases, the skin on the upper lid is pulled to create a crease.

Patients who undergo this procedure are allowed to go back home the same day. Stitches are typically removed three to five days after the procedure. Most patients experience no pain or discomfort after the surgery, but some people can be sensitive to light and experience some swelling.

Results of Blepharoplasty

Almost every patient who has undergone blepharoplasty to rejuvenate their appearance has expressed satisfaction with their results. They appear more rested and look much younger than before.

Their visual fields are also improved since the procedure will have removed any sagging skin that earlier blocked their vision. Blepharoplasty will not remove wrinkles around the eyes, but it is known to soften lines in the eyelids.

If you have excess skin in your eyelids and are looking to rejuvenate your appearance, then blepharoplasty is the way to go. Speak to your doctor before you decide to undergo the procedure.
