What is CoolSculpting?
It is a revolutionary procedure by Zeltiq that uses cold temperatures instead of heat to sculpt and tone stubborn areas of fat. It is non-invasive and generally well tolerated by everyone. The most common areas to treat are the abdomen, love handles, back and hips. Inner and outer thighs can also be treated. A consultation is required to determine appropriate candidates and treatment areas.
How does a CoolSculpting treatment work?
Coolsculpting takes the fat cells to just above freezing without affecting the surrounding tissue. When the fat cells are introduced to this temperature, they freeze, break apart, then the body can then absorb them naturally and remove them in the same way as any fat that you would eat.
What can I expect when receiving a treatment?
It is performed right in the office, requires no anesthesia and is non-invasive. Your Certified CoolSculpting Technician will start by applying a gel pad on the area to be sculpted. After that is in place they will then put the suction apparatus over the target site. The apparatus will suck the skin up between the two cold plates. There may be a cold sensation at first which generally disappears between five to ten minutes. Each treatment area takes an hour and it is common to treat anywhere from 1 to 4 areas in a session. During treatment patients choose to relax and read a book, watch a movie, talk on a cell phone or even take a nap. Once the treatment is complete, the device is removed and the treatment area is briefly massaged. Patients can leave the office and go on with whatever activities they have planned with no restrictions.
What are the side effects of CoolSculpting?
Since there are no incisions necessary and no anesthesia used the risks are minimal. The worst side effects are cramping or redness at the site which resolve on their own.
What improvement will I see?
As with any body sculpting procedure the results will vary. For the majority of people, there will be a significant reduction of fat at the area where CoolSculpting was performed, typically about 20% fat reduction per treatment. The results will be noticeable within two months, with full results occurring at about four months.
How many treatments will I need?
How many treatments desired is individual and based on the amount of fat in the treatment area. During your Consultation, the area and your desired result will be assessed in order to determine your treatment plan. An area can be treated once or multiple times, and can be re-treated as early as 6-8 weeks or later.
